Stuck in my Head – Bombay Bicycle Club “Shuffle”

Here is a little fun and up-beat tune for ya… “Shuffle” by Bombay Bicycle Club . They are an up-and-coming band from London.

Whenever I hear something I like from a new band I’ve discovered, I immediately check their tour dates hoping they have a show near by, and by near by I mean down the street at the Metro. No luck this time, and I was even more bummed when I saw they are touring with Two Door Cinema Club. That’s gotta be one fantastic show…

Thursday Pick-Me-Up : SebastiAn “Embody”

Here is a little afternoon pick-me-up for everyone. It’s a good tune, with sweet beats,  and a funny video that totally reminds me of my brother, Frankie… just watch, you’ll agree.

Stuck in my Head: Givers “Noche Nada”

Ahh, since I first heard this song here I can’t get it out of my head. I love the fun catchy lyrics, and upbeat tunes. I don’t think this is the official music video, but it’s fun to watch.

Lollapalooza 2011: A Day in Review

If there is one thing to know about me it’s that I love getting swept up in the magic of music festivals. The combination of good music and good friends puts a big ol’ smile on my face.

When Lollapalooza first released the 2011 line-up I had no interest (Eminem? really?) in going to the festival. Which was a BIG bummer because I bought tickets minutes after the 2010 line-up was announced (Phoenix, Arcade Fire, The Dodos, The XX, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Hot Chip, Chromeo, The Black Key’s, The New Pornographers, etc… yeah amazing)

Needless to say, as soon as the 2011 schedule was released most of the bands I wanted to see were in the same day, WOO! So my long term concert buddy J and I jumped on Friday tickets.

Here was our line-up…

The Naked and Famous  – We made it just in time and they were awesome. I’d definitely pay to see their show.

Foster the People - Caught the middle/end of the show, and yes of course we heard them play “Pumped Up Kicks” They were alright.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Damn that girl can sing. She was wailing on that mic so passionately – it was pretty moving. In addition to her vocals, she also jammed on the guitar and keyboard.

Two Door Cinema Club - Great band, fun music, and even more fun live. I would also pay to see these guys.

OK Go - It’s always nice to see a good Chicago band make it big. These guys put on a fantastic, energetic show. I’ve always been impressed with thier music videos and now I’m happy to see their live show lives up to the hype.

Coldplay - Yup that’s right, of all the headliners I picked Coldplay. I’ve never been much of a “glam rocker” so Muse was out of the question, I’ve already seen Ratatat and doubt anything could top that experience, and while Girl Talk is fun to listen/dance to I wasn’t about to get sweaty with teenagers at the DJ booth.  This was the perfect opportunity to see a band I’ve always wanted to see but never wanted to pay for, and I was BLOWN AWAY. Wow, they absolutely exceeded my expectations. I mean check out this light show…

Yeah, pretty amazing. They played a lot of tunes off of their “Parachutes” album a few from “A Rush of Blood to the Head” and a few new tunes. Here is Chris Martin jammin’ on the guitar…

All in All, I’m really happy I decided to go. I am lucky to live in a city that is home to such a massive music festival, passing up all three days was not an option. Next up, North Coast Music Festival 2011…

adidas vs Nike : Battle of the Brand

Last week Adidas lauched their new campaign “adidas is all in” with a sweet ad video. A few days later Nike launched what seemed like a rebuttal. Both video’s are shown below…

The adidas video is awesomely synced to a Justice track Civilization, with some nice cameos by Katy Perry and Chicago’s very own Derrick Rose.

Nike, on the other hand, makes a “recycled” ad which features a mash-up of old ads with a pretty inspiring monologue playing throughout. I hope Nike really does practice what they preach, because those last few lines are very convincing.

Sonar by Renaud Hallée

Simple, upbeat video for a not-so-upbeat day. What’s with all the rain Chicago? My puppy and I are getting cabin fever. The video gets very hypnotizing after the first minute or so.

You can find out more about the Montreal based designer here.

Rogue Wave

A favorite past time of mine is searching for new bands. And music festival line-ups are no doubt the prime scene for sampling. I found these guys Rogue Wave on the Lollapalooza line-up. At first I thought they were from the midwest with songs like “Lake Michigan” and “Chicago x 12″ but it turns out they are from Oakland, CA – nice. They’ve been around since 2004, and just released their latest album, Permalight, this past March.

Electric Feel Now

Happy Friday! I’d like to share a personal favorite. Enjoy the funky beats, jungle greenery, and trip-y animation this video has to offer. I’m definitely inspired to have a Midsummer Night’s Dream party, perhaps for the summer solstice? This song is Electric Feel by MGMT.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

From what I understand this is a group of ten musically talented friends from Marfa, Texas who get on stage and have a lot of fun.

This one goes out to my husband, who once told me (long before this song came out) that home is wherever I am. Same here Des.

Bibio Ambivalence Avenue

Bibio is an artist out of the UK with an ear for beats. I’m not entirely sure how I first heard the tune “Ambivalence Avenue” but I am hooked. It’s a tune that will stay on my favorites list for years, or at least months. You can listen below…

Unfortunately, I can not find any “official” videos from Bibio, but I found a sweet collage of  Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (my favorite) movie clips synced with a Bibio tune “Lover’s Cravings”
