OAT Shoes

Not only have these OAT shoes just been introduced to the masses, but they also just won second prize at the Green Fashion Awards at Amsterdam International Fashion Week. So what’s the big deal? They are made entirely from biodegradable materials, which means they can be composted when you are done. And the tongues have seeds them, so if you plant them plants will grow! Here is a word from the company

This first collection of biodegradable sneakers is the result of almost two years of research and development. Countless hours of searching the Internet, visiting factories and craftsmen and attending workshops on the ecological properties of materials either so new that they were hardly commercially available or so old and out of use, we had to search out the sparse islands of traditional craftsmanship to find them. And now here we are with our first collection! We hope you love them, enjoy them and have as much fun with them as we had making them so that these kicks may be the first of many more!

Their current collection ” Virgin” includes 4 different unisex shoes ranging from hi-tops to your standard regular-tops. The word on the street is that they’ll hit the US market in late 2011.

I’m not sure what it is, but this company has a real genuine feeling. There are a lot of companies out there who are doing the “green” thing because it’s trendy, but there are a far too few companies that actually care about the impact their product makes. Kudos to you OAT.  Check out their sweet logo too…

…and  runway theme. Ha!
